Accommodation Program for Faculty and Staff

The Office for Equal Opportunity Programs (OEOP) administers Yale University’s Accommodation Program for Employees with Disabilities. Yale provides reasonable accommodations to all Faculty and Staff with documented disabilities and applicants for employment at Yale who seek accommodation in the job application process due to a disability.

A reasonable accommodation is any adjustment to a job, work environment, work policy or practice that doesn’t cause an undue hardship and would help a person with a disability:

  • Apply for a job
  • Perform their job duties
  • Enjoy benefits and privileges of employment equal to those enjoyed by individuals without disabilities

Some common accommodations include:

  • Assistive Technology
  • Flexible Work Arrangements
  • Classroom/Office Reassignment
  • Adjustments to Workplace policies
  • Job Reassignment
  • American Sign Language Interpreter Services
  • Job Restructuring Materials in Alternate Formats (Large Print, Braille, etc.)

Individuals who wish to request a reasonable accommodation should contact OEOP. Individuals can enroll in the program by providing OEOP with written medical documentation from their health care provider that identifies their condition and the nature of their restriction. They must also authorize their health care provider to discuss their request with someone from OEOP. Applicants for Yale’s Accommodation Program can satisfy both requirements by completing a request form with their health care provider and sending it to OEOP.
